Admission and Borrowing Policies

Note that by necessity these policies are much simplified and provided for initial guidance only. Please check with the library for full details.

OU undergraduate students:

Admissions: all. Borrowing: all

In Term: 10 items for 7 days; Christmas and Easter Vacation: 20 items for the duration; Long Vacation: 30 items for the duration.

OU postgraduate students:

Admissions: all. Borrowing: all

Standard Loan (Master’s students and graduates of other faculties): In Term: 10 items for 7 days; Christmas and Easter Vacation: 20 items for the duration; Long Vacation: 30 items for the duration. Research Loan (including confirmed D.Phil. History students): In Term: 10 items for 28 days (subject to recall after 1 week if reserved by another reader); Christmas and Easter Vacation: 20 items for the duration; Long Vacation: 30 items for the duration.

OU academic and research staff:

Admissions: all. Borrowing: all

All senior members and University staff of the University of Oxford have access rights to the Library, and may borrow for the purposes of research and study.

Limited access is provided for visiting students and academics with demonstrable affiliation/recognition, which does not always including borrowing facilities.

Subjects Covered

The collections constitute Medieval and Modern History, and they comprise predominantly British and European History from the Late Roman period onwards, History of the Byzantine Empire, History of Russia and the former Soviet Union, History of India, and History of Australia and New Zealand, and growing coverage of the History of North and South America and the West Indies, and Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as Historiography, the History of Science, the History of Art, and Palaeography.
